Shine Lawyers

Shine Lawyers is investigating a class action alleging that the Department of Child Protection engaged in unlawful racial discrimination against First Nation families, where children were removed from their families and were failed to be reunified. The brief was to design a cultural design to represent the class action.

The line work in the artwork represents the barriers the department has put up, which have prevented families from staying together. The central element represents Shine Lawyers and the work being done to break through these barriers. The leaves represent the idea of a family tree. One side shows the darkness and harm caused, whilst the opposite side shows the growth of re-connection to family and discovering one’s identity and culture. Small dots represent the idea of people coming together from various parts of Australia and taking part in the class action.
